South Carolina Biotechnology Incubation Facility
117 Gregor Mendel Circle
Greenwood, SC 29646
The
South Carolina Biotechnology Incubation Program is part of the State's
efforts to build the infrastructure necessary to increase South Carolina's
"knowledge-based" economy and to participate in growth of the Nation's
life science industry. The J.C. Self Research Institute of Human Genetics,
a division of the Greenwood Genetic Center, serves as the academic anchor
for the Incubation Program with the collaboration of the State's three
research universities - Clemson University, the Medical University of
South Carolina, and the University of South Carolina.
Located in South Carolina's Lakelands Region, the
Program's first incubation facility, opened in September 2002, houses six
laboratory modules, library, conference center, offices, and support
space. T he
laboratory modules and related office space are available immediately for
start up businesses with commercial applications for life sciences
products and processes.
The South Carolina Biotechnology
Incubation Program is operated by a Board of Governors in cooperation with
the Greenwood County Economic Alliance with State appropriated funds. The
Greenwood Genetic Center provides faculty consultation, library and
conference facilities, laboratory safety education, disposal of hazardous
materials, and a wide range of other support services. A five-hundred acre
Biotechnology Park has been planned adjacent to the Incubation
Facility to provide attractive sites for location of graduates from the
program.
