GGC Plays Crucial Role in FDA Clearance of CytoScan Dx

CytoScan® Dx Assay is the first whole genome test to gain diagnostic clearance

Greenwood, SC (January 22, 2014) – Two to three percent of children in the United States have some form of intellectual disability, many of which are associated with genetic changes. For these families, finding a diagnosis can be a journey that, if ever realized, may take months or even years.

Last week, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted the first-ever clearance for a whole-genome genetic test that with a single blood sample can scan a patient's entire genome searching for the cause of developmental and intellectual disabilities.

Affymetrix, Inc., based in Santa Clara, CA, partnering with Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) and others, now has regulatory clearance to market CytoScan Dx Assay as a diagnostic test.

Race the Helix Proceeds Presented to the GGC Foundation

Greenwood (January 3, 2014) - Stephen and Jodi Shenal along with their children, Tyler (9) and Ryleigh (3), presented a check for $3,540 to the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) Foundation on behalf of the Greenwood Endurance Team. The Shenals, along with the Greenwood Endurance Team, organize 'Race the Helix', an annual 5K race and 1 mile walk, each fall. Proceeds from the event benefit the GGC Foundation which supports the Center's treatment initiatives, educational programs, and research. The Shenals started 'Race the Helix' in 2011 after Ryleigh was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder.
