Greenwood Genetic Center’s Dr. Rogers Speaks at International Symposium in New York City

Dr. Curtis Rogers, Senior Clinical Geneticist at the Greenville office of the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) and Director of Genetics for the Greenville Hospital system, was invited to attend and speak at the first International Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Symposium in New York City on March 3-4. The symposium, sponsored by the Phelan-McDermid Syndrome Foundation (PMSF), had over 110 participants and focused on how new findings related to Phelan-McDermid Syndrome (PMS) are helping scientists understand the biology of autism spectrum disorders (ASD) and are informing the development of novel therapeutics.

Greenwood Genetic Center’s Saul Appointed to Chair Committee on Genetics Greenwood, SC

Dr. Robert A. Saul, Senior Clinical Geneticist at the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC), has been appointed to chair the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) Committee on Genetics, effective July 1, 2011. Chosen by the AAP Board of Directors, members of the Committee are selected on the basis of talents and expertise in the genetics field. The committee studies and makes recommendations to the Board of Directors on recent advances in genetics and provides support to chapters on state legislative issues as they relate to genetics.

Greenwood Genetic Center Hosts Reception to Honor Directors

Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) hosted a reception Friday, February 4, to announce Dr. Steven A. Skinner as new Director of the Center and to honor outgoing director and co-founder of GGC, Dr. Roger E. Stevenson. The reception was held at the J.C. Self Research Institute on GGC’s Greenwood campus. The event consisted of presentations by GGC board members, including a resolution in honor of Dr. Stevenson followed by the passing of the gavel to Dr. Skinner.
