Countybank Honors GGC Employees with Gift Match

October 28, 2015 – Representatives from Countybank in Greenwood were on hand at the Greenwood Genetic Center's monthly employee seminar for a big announcement. The bank, which has been a supporter of GGC through the Center's Race the Helix 5K, has made a commitment, and proposed a challenge, to GGC employees.

In honor of the dedication of the 170 GGC employees, Countybank has pledged to match employee giving to the GGC Foundation, up to $20,000 each year for the next five years.


SC Senate Finance Committee Visits GGC

October 22, 2015 - The Greenwood Genetic Center welcomed members of the SC Senate Finance Committee to campus on Thursday. GGC Director, Dr. Steve Skinner, provided the group with an overview of the work of the Center including updates on current autism research and the plan for economic development in the area. The senators and staff then toured the campus including the research facility, clinic and diagnostic laboratories to better understand the technological advances that are directly impacting patients across South Carolina.


GGC's Schwartz Part of First Christianson Syndrome Conference

GGC Researchers Identified Gene

September 2, 2015 - Dr. Charles Schwartz, Director of Research at the Greenwood Genetic Center, attended the 1st International Conference on Christianson Syndrome in Houston in August. In 2008, Schwartz was part of the team who identified the gene, SLC9A6, that causes Christianson syndrome, and GGC was the first laboratory to offer testing for this gene to patients. Schwartz was invited to speak at the conference about the clinical findings, progression and diagnosis of this rare disorder.
