Gene Machine Registration for the 2011-2012 School Year Open

Registration for the Greenwood Genetic Center's mobile laboratory, the Gene Machine, is available for the upcoming school year beginning on Monday, May 16th to high schools across South Carolina. The 41-foot custom bus, outfitted as a mobile laboratory, regularly travels around the state visiting students and teachers at no cost to schools.

Students participate in activities where they have the opportunity to perform hands-on simulated lab experiments. The experience provides exposure to the vast technologies used in the medical genetics arena. Laboratory-based activities and instruction facilitated by faculty of the Greenwood Genetic Center expose students and teachers to available opportunities in the fields of genetics and biotechnology. The Greenwood Genetic Center was awarded a grant from the National Human Genome Research Institute in 2009 that allowed the Center to acquire the mobile science laboratory.

Registration for the 2011-2012 school year is available on a first come first serve basis. For more information about registering, click here or contact Dr. Leta Tribble at (864) 943-4170 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. .
