First Citizens Foundation Provides Grant to GGC

first_citizens_grant(October 27, 2011) First Citizens Foundation recently donated $40,000 to the Greenwood Genetic Center. The donation will be used to fund additional technology in the Center's diagnostic laboratory, which is South Carolina's only Next Generation DNA Sequencing laboratory.

"We are very appreciative of the long-standing relationship and support that we have had with First Citizens," said Dr. Steve Skinner, Director of the Greenwood Genetic Center. "This grant will help us to continue to bring new technologies and new treatments for genetic disorders to the citizens of South Carolina."

The additional technology will provide researchers with faster, more accurate and thorough diagnoses for birth defects and genetic disorders, which affect many South Carolina families each year.

"First Citizens is pleased to make this grant to the Greenwood Genetic Center," said Rhett Baker, Commercial Area Executive for the bank's Greenwood market. "The additional resources provided as a result of this grant will continue to support families across the state by providing diagnostic testing and genetic research, and we look forward to continuing to pledge our support for the Center's mission."
