The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC)
is a private, not-for-profit institute. Founded in 1974, the Center has
been providing comprehensive genetic services, laboratory diagnostic
testing, and education for the state of South Carolina. The Center has
made substantial contributions in the field of genetic research and has
acquired an international reputation for its work in the study of mental
retardation and birth defects.
Current Positions Available
CLINICAL GENETICIST
The Greenwood Genetic Center is recruiting a clinical
geneticist at the assistant or associate level to join an active team of
11 clinical geneticists, 1 clinical biochemical geneticists, 9 genetic
counselors, and 9 PhD geneticists. The successful applicant will see
children and adults with a variety of genetic conditions; however, the
focus will be on individuals with developmental disabilities and birth
defects. There will be opportunity for clinical and translational
research as well as teaching opportunities.
Applicants must have a M.D. and be board-certified or
board eligible in clinical genetics. Salary and appointment are
commensurate with qualifications.

CLINICAL BIOCHEMICAL GENETICIST
The Greenwood Genetic Center is recruiting a clinical
biochemical geneticist to join an active metabolic program serving the
state of South Carolina. The successful applicant will join a
Board-certified clinical biochemical geneticist and will be supported by
metabolic nutritionists, clinical psychologists, metabolic case
managers, and an active biochemical laboratory section. In addition, the
metabolic program is supported by the clinical division of the Greenwood
Genetic Center, including 9 clinical geneticists and 9 genetic
counselors. The candidate must have a M.D. or M.D./PhD and be
board-certified or board eligible in clinical biochemical genetics.
Clinical and translational research opportunities are available. Salary
and appointment are commensurate with qualifications.

MEDICAL GENETICS RESIDENCY
The clinical genetics residency at the Greenwood Genetic Center is designed
to provide intensive postgraduate clinical experience with heritable conditions.
Residents are required to have completed a primary care residency program
(family practice, internal medicine, OB/GYN or pediatrics). Clinical training
includes exposure to prenatal, pediatric and adult genetics and counseling
(2,500 new families per year). Specifically, the resident will see a wide range
of heritable disorders, reviewing the evaluation and management of each patient
with their preceptor. The student will learn principles of heredity through
conferences, internal graduate courses and clinical experience. Moreover they
will study the nature of genetic disorders and their impact on the individual,
family, and society.

SUMMER INTERNSHIP
GGC offers a summer internship program for highly
qualified college students. The GGC provides 6 paid internship
positions each summer, but also places students in volunteer and shadowing
positions in the diagnostic and research labs throughout the school year.
