Fran Annese is a South Carolina state licensed social worker
with 7 years experience with the Greenwood Genetic Center. Fran joined the
Greenwood Genetic Center as the clinic coordinator after completing her
Bachelor of Science degree in 1999. She continues to coordinate genetic
clinics in Greenwood and Spartanburg. Fran is responsible for gathering
information before clinics, making referrals during clinics, assisting with
patient follow-up, and compiling and distributing information on various
genetics topics. Fran also participates in the coordination of clinical
research studies. Fran is responsible for informing families of individuals
with Rett Syndrome and Angelman Syndrome of the Rare Disease Clinical
Research Network for New Therapies and New Diagnostics study, enlists
appropriate patients for research projects to be carried out by the
consortium, and travels to various locations across the country enrolling
patients in the Rett Syndrome study. As clinic manager, Fran assists the
director of clinical genetic services with the daily clinical operations of
the Greenwood office. Fran's social work skills enable her to act as a
starting point for families receiving new genetic diagnoses and to provide
assistance to families in need.
