COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Information

The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) is closely monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus (COVID-19) and is making operational changes to minimize the spread of the virus.

Employees who have the capability to work from home are doing so, and those who must be in the office are working on staggered shifts and are practicing social distancing. Our employees have been instructed on standard procedures to prevent the spread of this illness such as hand washing, social distancing, and staying home if they are exhibiting any symptoms consistent with COVID-19 or other contagious illnesses. Employees are required to wear face masks when social distancing is not possible. We are also maximizing cleaning efforts in all of our offices.

All employees, patients, and visitors to our campus must undergo health and temperature screening prior to entering our facility.

While many patient appointments continue to be held via telegenetics, GGC is slowly and deliberately increasing in-person visits, particularly for patients for whom virtual visits may not be possible or ideal. In addition to temperature and health screening prior to entering our office, patients (over age 2) and family members coming to any of our offices are asked to wear a face mask whenever possible. If you need a face mask, one will be provided for you.

GGC's Diagnostic Laboratories remain open to accept clinical samples with no delay in processing. Saliva swab kits can be ordered here to be sent to patient homes, and GGC has created a patient instructional video to assist in the collection of these samples.

GGC does not provide testing for COVID-19. If you are a GGC patient and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, coughing, and shortness of breath, contact your primary healthcare provider. Virtual evaluations for COVID-19 can also be arranged through several healthcare organizations across South Carolina. More information on these virtual services can be found here.

GGC is closely monitoring information from the CDC and assessing how this may further impact Center procedures and activities. Additional changes to our operations will be shared on this page.
