Duke Endowment Grant to Fund Treatment Initiatives at GGC

The Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC), which comprises the Department of Medical Genetics at Self Regional Healthcare, has been awarded a 3-year grant totalling $2.75 million from The Duke Endowment to fund an expansion of the Center’s treatment initiatives.

With their focus on treating genetic disorders, GGC will use the funding from The Endowment to strengthen the infrastructure for the Center’s Treatment Program. The grant will complement the $5.6 million gift from Self Regional Healthcare announced last month, as the Center moves forward with the research and treatment collaborative with the hospital and Clemson University.

Currently GGC serves over 200 patients statewide who are on therapies for metabolic genetic diagnoses. This additional funding will allow the Center to expand clinical services for patients with metabolic disorders. Additional equipment will be available to improve the testing capacity for the diagnosis and monitoring of these individuals. The grant will also provide support for additional personnel to expand the Center’s capabilities to offer more clinical trials for a variety of genetic disorders.
