Race the Helix Proceeds Presented to the GGC Foundation

Stephen and Jodi Shenal along with their children, Tyler (9) and Ryleigh (3), presented a check for $3,540 to the Greenwood Genetic Center (GGC) Foundation on behalf of the Greenwood Endurance Team. The Shenals, along with the Greenwood Endurance Team, organize ‘Race the Helix’, an annual 5K race and 1 mile walk, each fall. Proceeds from the event benefit the GGC Foundation which supports the Center’s treatment initiatives, educational programs, and research. The Shenals started ‘Race the Helix’ in 2011 after Ryleigh was diagnosed with a rare chromosome disorder.

“The Greenwood Genetic Center has done so much for our family,” shared Jodi, “It’s the least we can do to give back to the great work they’re doing.” Stephen added “Every year we’re blown away by how our community and local sponsors come together to support this cause that is so dear to us.”

In three years, Race the Helix has raised over $10,000 for the Foundation. The 4th annual Race the Helix is scheduled for October 4, 2014.

“We are so appreciative of this family, who has been touched by the work done here at the GGC,” shared GGC Foundation’s Board of Trustees Chairman, Bob Erwin. “The money raised will be used to advance medical genetics, and maybe more importantly, the awareness they bring to the research and work of the Greenwood Genetic Center will allow us to positively impact many more families like theirs.”
